As the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang draw ever-closer, interest around the many sports involved begins to spark.
One of the sports that is becoming increasingly popular from the Winter Games is cross-country skiing - whereby the skiers use movements similar to walking or ice skating, with the addition of poles, to propel themselves over the snow, both uphill and downhill.
There are cross-country skiing clubs across the country, but due to our lack of snow, roller skiing is how we practice. If you live in London or can get there easily, then London Region Nordic Ski Club is one of the best places to try it out. If you live elsewhere, check the Snowsport England website for your nearest one.
For those looking to get involved, our club has even featured as a location in Crystal Ski’s exclusive Winter Games guide.
Winter Games are Coming looks at the Team GB hopefuls who have demonstrated their athletic potential, who are the ones to watch in 2018 and even areas that you can get involved in a variety of winter sports. You can navigate your way through the guide to find sporting stars past and present and which region they were born in. We’re certainly rooting for all of the cross-country stars next year and wish them every success in the event!
As a club, we offer courses for all skill levels in west London - whether you’re just starting out or a talented individual wishing to improve your skills. There are even opportunities to join us on recreational or racing trips where we cross-country ski on actual snow.
If you have an interest in the 2018 Games, and an enthusiasm for the sport, then don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re very friendly and love welcoming new members. Get in touch today!
